"Banglar Bari" – A Special Housing Scheme Launched by West Bengal Government
Having a dream house is a common desire for nearly everyone but an absence of financial assistance puts a burden on aspiring homeowners. West Bengal Government is acknowledging this basic requirement by initiating its Banglar Bari Scheme to its people. The low-cost housing scheme is intended to deliver low-cost housing solutions to their citizens, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched this scheme in December 2024 and continues to roll out the scheme across the state to deliver quality housing solutions since the same has emerged as a major concern. The scheme is formulated to address the housing deficit by providing affordable, sustainable, and well-facilitated housing units to the underprivileged segment of society.
Objectives of the Scheme:
The prime objective of Banglar Bari is to offer affordable housing solutions to individuals and families belonging to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Lower Income Groups. The West Bengal Government scheme goes with the vision of “Housing for All” which guarantees that every citizen receives a secure living place.
This emphasis comprises:
Affordable Home Option for Urban Poor: It is designed to offer well-built home units at cheap prices to poor people.
Slum Redevelopment: The Banglar Bari Scheme converts existing slums into beautifully furnished residential areas that offer basic amenities through the enhancement of living conditions and overall sanitation.
Well-Planned Infrastructure: The residential complexes under this scheme are designed to provide a sustainable life to its citizens.
Urban Development: By creating sustainable housing solutions, the state accommodates the growing population and addresses the corresponding development.
West Bengal Government is emphasizing to equip the housing projects with basic infrastructure like Water Supply, Sanitation, Electricity, and Connectivity. The scheme will have a substantial bearing on state’s socio-economic scenario which will ensure safe and secure accommodation to everyone. In addition to it, for generating economic activity the scheme seeks to generate jobs within the construction industry and allied industries.
